Pop-Surrealism
My work awakes the senses.
Stimulating the sense of smell with coffee, leather and oil paint and the tactile coarseness of leather and stitching.
An uncomplicated item such as a piece of cloth or piece of leather gets transformed into an object latent with metaphors and symbolism.
The objects I assemble are equivalent to painting an impasto canvas, traversing the two dimensional into the three dimensional, yet still being rooted in the discipline of painting.
Piercing, lacerating and then stitching through the semi-precious canvas is as raw as perforating the skin, self harm to its most personal logic.
The process starts of by choosing the materials, leather, hessian, coffee bags and cloth then adding the thick layers of oil paint.
My art is conceptual/ abstract in nature and borders on the surreal.
